Standard Intercoms

Standard Wired Intercoms

Wired intercoms have been around for decades. They benefit greatly from this maturity by being very low cost and very reliable. Over the years lots of improvements have been made to these systems with the addition of built in code pads, biometrics, video monitors & card tag readers. Wired systems do have some down sides however. The most obvious problem is that the wires must be laid and fed into the property, this is easily done on new builds but can be a lot trickier on older buildings. Wired intercoms have to run multiple wires to each handset they are intended to call. On large sites this can be a big problem and can lead to large labour charges turning a low cost intercom solution into a very expensive one (especially Video system). One of the best improvements has been the introduction of BUS systems. These are 2 wire systems that are easier to set up then the standard multi wired version. Some examples of wired intercoms can be seen below.
